How to choose the right surface finish for your rigid PCB project?

Why should discuss the surface finish selection guidelines?

First of all we should know every surface finish have each own benefit, and have unique applications.
There were many effective factors related to surface finish selection.
Likely the performance requirements, or material costs etc.
So we will from some simple surface finish selection example to discuss this issue.

Tin-Lead HASL is the lowest choice

From our 4MCPCB experience, Tin-Lead HASL surface finish applications so widely.
Most due to Tin-Lead material cost very low cost, then the Tin-Lead HASL rigid PCB is lower than the other conventional PCB board.
But there was one disadvantage for this rigid PCB, it is not suitable for RoHS compliant products.
So if you project needs RoHS compliant, Tin-Lead HASL PCBs were not your choice.

Lead Free HASL meet RoHS compliant

The Lead free HASL rigid PCBs were not the lowest price.
But its price also have competitive compare with other conventional PCB board.
If your project no fine pitch component requirements, Lead free HASL rigid PCB is your good choice.
Most important is that all lead free HASL PCB can meet RoHS compliant in Europe.

Immersion Silver suitable fine pitch component application

Above we have mentioned Lead free HASL rigid PCBs were not used fine pitch component area.
4MCPCB surface finish experts told Emma, Immersion Silver or ENIG rigid PCB can meet this requirement.
Because all Immersion Silver surface finish is a flat, lead free surface finish.
But there was another issue, you should use of more costly high temperature laminated rigid PCB.
So choose the right surface finish is becoming more complex.
