Why we discuss the way reduce costs in 2 layer and 4 layer PCB manufacture
If you have read our articles, you will find the cost breakdown of 2 layers is different with the 4 layer PCB board.
And the reduce cost also have different ways.
But one of my friends asks me how to reduce costs in 2 layer and 4 layer PCB manufacture.
Due to their company just need 2 layer and 3 layer PCB board, so have interest to reach this strange requirement.

This post is to try to discuss the same way to reduce cost 2 layer PCB and 4 layer PCB.
From the datum we get from most of China PCB manufacturers, except use cheap PCB base material to produce, we have summary two ways to reduce cost.
First simplifies the 2 layer or 4 layer PCB design.
It’s hard to reduce the layer of 2 layer or 4 layer PCB, but if remove some hole or line may more easy.
And in some case design, change some PCB layout also can reduce plating copper area.
This means the plating and finish cost will be reduced.
Of course, all change must follow new project requirements, and must under experience designers.
The second is solder mask material.
This way may be the safest way, due to not affect the quality of PCB board.
Even the cost just reduces by around 5%, most PCB manufacturer perform to use this way.
Most important is that use differs solder mask material to reduce cost, easy to quality control, especially in mass production 2 layer or 4 layer PCB order.
